Florida basketball star Keyontae Johnson, who collapsed on the court and was brought to the hospital Saturday, has been upgraded to stable condition.

In a statement the program released Tuesday from Johnson’s parents, Nika and Marrecus, Johnson is breathing on his own. He’s speaking with his parents and FaceTimed with the team, his parents said.

Johnson, the preseason SEC Player of the Year, collapsed on the court during Saturday’s game against Florida State. The junior had just dunked, headed to his team’s huddle for a timeout and then fell when he retook the court. Johnson was soon taken to Tallahassee Memorial hospital, and his grandfather told USA TODAY he had been placed in a medically induced coma.

On Monday, the school announced Johnson had been transported to UF Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. At that point, he was following simple commands and undergoing further testing, the school said.

His recovery continued Tuesday, with his parents’ announcement that Johnson is now talking and breathing on his own. The junior has averaged 16 points per game so far this season, and he’s considered a first-round draft pick on many 2021 mock drafts. He also led the team last season with 14 points per game.

It’s unclear what Johnson’s ailment is. Florida had paused team activities last month due to positive coronavirus cases, but whether Johnson had it is unknown. The coronavirus can cause the heart condition myocarditis.
