SOMERSET, N.Y. (AP) - A 76-year-old western New York man was killed Friday when a tree fell on him while he was cutting it down, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said.

WKBW-TV reported William Rucker, of Somerset, was pinned when part of the tree’s trunk split and landed on him as he cut the tree with a chainsaw.

Rescue workers were able to free Rucker but couldn’t revive him, the station reported.
