RENO, Nev. (AP) - Sparks police shot a man who pointed a gun at two officers after fleeing the scene of an altercation with a knife, Reno police said.
The Sparks officers were responding to a report of a disturbance involving a person waving a knife in the air in a parking lot near Pyramid Way and Victorian Avenue at about 11:52 p.m. Wednesday, Reno police said.
They saw the suspect’s vehicle leaving in the parking lot and attempted to make a traffic stop. But the suspect headed north on Pyramid Way and ran several traffic lights before he exited the vehicle at the intersection with McCarran Boulevard and pointed a gun at the officers, police said Thursday.
Two Sparks officers fired their weapons, striking the suspect who was hospitalized in stable condition. No one else was hurt.
Reno Police are leading an investigation into the officer-involved shooting under Washoe County protocols.
