BRIGHTON, Mo. (AP) - A Greene County deputy was seriously injured Friday when a driver fleeing from authorities appeared to deliberately veer off the road and strike the officer, Greene County authorities said.
The deputy was struck Friday on Highway 13 near Brighton while deploying stop sticks to end the chase, according to James Winston, spokesman for the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
Winston said in the news release that the suspect veered off of the road and struck a deputy “in what appears to be a deliberate act.”
The deputy was being treated at a Springfield-area hospital.
The pursuit began when Greene County deputies responded to a call about a domestic disturbance in Springfield. While officers were at the victim’s house, the suspect drove past and then fled when officers tried to stop the car.
The suspect was taken into custody immediately after the deputy was injured. No other details were released.
