FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Fargo police are investigating the death of a woman who was found with severe injuries in an apartment parking lot early Friday.

Police say the woman was likely a passenger in a vehicle that had been fleeing police, and she may have tried to get out of the vehicle while it was still in motion. She died of her injuries in the parking lot. Her name will not be released until Monday.

Police say that shortly before 3 a.m., a Fargo officer turned around to stop a vehicle but the driver sped off before the officer could activate the squad’s emergency lights. The officer did not chase the vehicle, but drove in its last known path. The officer entered an apartment building’s parking lot and saw the severely injured woman.

The officer stopped to help the woman and called emergency officials.

Other officers saw the fleeing vehicle in another parking lot, where the driver had crashed into a parked vehicle. The driver then fled inside a residence and was arrested.
