BOSTON (AP) - A Boston man authorities say beat his girlfriend to death with a wooden furniture dolly during an argument over drugs has been ordered held without bail.

Alan Washington, 71, pleaded not guilty to murder Wednesday in the death Tuesday night of Tanya Malone, 58, at an apartment they shared.

Washington told police that he was upset with Malone because she had taken his cocaine and would not give it back and was calling him a liar, according to the office of Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins.

He pushed her to the floor and hit her in the head with the wooden dolly until she stopped moving, authorities said.

He went to his neighbor’s unit and police and EMS were called, prosecutors said. Malone was pronounced dead at the scene.

An email seeking comment was left with Washington’s attorney.
