MASCOTTE, Fla. (AP) - Charges have been dropped against a former Florida city manager accused of poking and yelling at a city council member following a vote against renewing his contract, according to court records.
The State Attorney’s Office in Lake County filed an announcement of no information, deciding they had insufficient evidence to prove elements of felony battery and misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges against former Mascotte City Manager Jim Gleason, the Orlando Sentinel reported Monday.
Police responded to an argument shortly after an August city council meeting. Gleason, 62, was fighting with Mayor Pro Tem Brenda Brasher and her husband, according to an arrest affidavit.
Gleason was angry the council, including Brasher, had voted against renewing his three-year contract, which ended June 17, city records show. Witnesses told police Gleason began aggressively poking Brasher on the shoulder, bumping her with his chest and screaming profanities at her. Brasher’s husband stepped in between the two, and nearby witnesses escorted the couple inside the building.
