BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Two Vermont beaches have been closed after a blue-green algae bloom was discovered.
The Burlington Parks and Recreation Department tweeted Thursday that North Beach and Texaco beach were closed to swimmers because of cyanobacteria blooms, WPTZ-TV reported. Leddy and Oakledge beaches remain open, according to the department.
City officials have asked that visitors avoid swimming and keep dogs away from the water.
Cyanobacteria blooms naturally occur after stretches of hot weather and can become dangerous at elevated levels.
