PIKEVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A nonprofit organization that aims to improve the future of eastern Kentucky is seeking a new executive director, officials said.
Shaping Our Appalachian Region Inc. is launching a statewide search for its next leader, a statement from the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce said. The chamber has partnered with the organization to conduct the search.
Founding Director Jared Arnett announced his intention to step down to be more involved in a business he co-founded before taking the position, though he will remain until his successor is named, officials said.
Shaping Our Appalachian Region launched in 2013 to diversify eastern Kentucky’s economy, which had been hurt by a sharp drop in coal jobs.
The initiative gathered input from thousands of people and published a blueprint for rural development. The organization supports a network of more than 250 partners that work to move the blueprint forward.
