RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A group of public school teachers, parents and students participated in a motor march in Virginia calling for a virtual start to the school year.
Demonstrators convened at a middle school in Richmond on Monday before driving down to the Capitol as part of the march, The Richmond-Times Dispatch reported. People across the state attended the event, which was organized by Virginia Educators United for the National Day of Resistance.
Some school districts in Virginia have decided to start the school year virtually while others are allowing parents to choose from online or face-to-face learning.
Aside from a virtual start to the school year, the group is also calling for other things, including “necessary funding” to “effectively implement online learning,” paid sick and family leave, an extension in unemployment benefits and mortgage forbearance, according to a news release by the coalition.
