BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota health officials are reporting one new death due to COVID-19 and a slight decline in active cases.

The North Dakota Department of Health on Monday reported a Grand Forks County man in his 50s with underlying health conditions died, bringing the state’s death toll to 143 since the pandemic began.

Health officials reported 114 newly confirmed cases on Monday, raising the total number of infections in the state to 11,816 since the pandemic struck the state in mid-March. The number of active cases in North Dakota totals 2,378, down from a record high 2,481 set Sunday.



A total of 70 patients are currently hospitalized in North Dakota, up two from the previous day.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.
