OPINION:
Last week, Fox News host Tucker Carlson delivered what we thought was a righteous opening monologue to his evening show. His segment went live the night after Kyle Rittenhouse, a 17-year-old, was arrested and charged with first-degree intentional homicide in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where the third night of rioting was in full, unchecked swing.
But as anyone with any sense could have predicted, something worse than massive property damage would eventually occur. And so it happened that two people were killed and a third was injured in the Kenosha melee, during which time, as it now appears, Mr. Rittenhouse reacted out of fear for his life at the hand of a mob. And while, as Mr. Carlson acknowledged, the details regarding Mr. Rittenhouse’s actions are still emerging and, ultimately, will be a matter for the justice system, “we do know why it all happened, though. Kenosha has devolved into anarchy because the authorities in charge of the city abandoned it.”
For this statement of plain fact, Mr. Carlson faced the full evil perversity of our national left-wing media and its adjacent Internet wing of super-emboldened progressives. Calls for his firing, the cancellation of his show, and the pulling of his sponsors came fast and furious from every blue check in the land.
Mr. Carlson told the truth, and it obviously hit a little too close to home for many Democrats. Allow us to further echo Mr. Carlson: The riots in Kenosha and the subsequent fracas that finds a minor in police custody and two dead, is precisely what results when police are verbally abused and monetarily unsupported and rioters (whom Democratic politicians very politely call “protesters”) not only are allowed to set fire to whole cities, but are rhetorically — and financially — supported by leading left luminaries.
In case you suspect that the anarchy touches only out-of-the-way pockets in America, think again. Sen. Rand Paul was accosted by a mob leaving President Donald Trump’s Republican National Convention speech. He would later tweet, “Just got attacked by an angry mob of over 100, one block away from the White House.” The senator got off lucky.
Down Pennsylvania Avenue a man was assaulted and punched to the ground by an unruly crowd. A rioter in a balaclava mask screamed at RNC committeeman Chris Ager and his wife, threatening to “f** [them] up.”
This all took place under the shadow of the nation’s Capitol.
Expect more and worse unless we meet this evil with the kind of law and order only supported police departments can deliver. Expect more and worse unless our politicians grow spines and devote resources to countering the mob and mob mentality. Expect more and worse if Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are elected. The destroyers of our cities and American way of life are certainly counting on it.
