OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Nearly 1,100 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 and 11 new deaths from the illness, the Oklahoma State Health Department reported Saturday.
The new cases the department reported on Saturday raised the total for the six-month outbreak to 57,353 cases, while the deaths raised Oklahoma’s outbreak toll to 797.
The true number of cases in Oklahoma is likely higher because many people have not been tested, and studies suggest people can be infected and not feel sick.
For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
