SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A man shot in Springfield on Wednesday died at the hospital, police said.

Officers reponding to the city’s automated gunfire detection system just before 6 p.m. found the male victim in front of a home on Wait Street suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was taken by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center where he later died, police spokesman Ryan Walsh said.

The victim’s name has not been made public and the shooting is under investigation.

The death was the city’s 13th homicide of the year and the third shooting in two days in Springfield. The previous two were not fatal.

One witness told Masslive.com that people had recently moved into the home and said the victim is one of the residents or a friend of one of the residents.
