ALBANY, Mo. (AP) - A St. Joseph man died after shots were fired while his vehicle was being pursued by a sheriff’s deputy in northwest Missouri, authorities said.
Shiloh D. Smith, 35, died Thursday night after a chase that began with traffic violations in Gentry County, the patrol said.
Shots were fired from Smith’s pickup truck during the pursuit and a Gentry County sheriff’s deputy returned fire, the patrol said.
The pursuit wound through several Gentry County roads before ending when Smith’s truck crashed in DeKalb County, The St. Joseph News-Press reported.
Patrol spokesman Sgt. Jake Angle said Smith died from injuries not related to the crash but he would not say whether the death was caused by gunfire exchanged between Smith and the deputy.
The patrol’s investigation was continuing.
