MARSHFIELD, Vt. (AP) - A Marshfield man has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the shooting death of his father.
Samir Fink, 31, was arraigned Thursday in the death of William Fink, 71, who was found dead in their home. Police believe the shooting happened after a dispute.
“The motive and what happened leading up to this incident remains under investigation,” said Washington County State’s Attorney Rory Thibault on Thursday, according to WCAX-TV.
The victim’s wife, Ann Borys, called police Wednesday morning after finding her husband dead in his bed.
Borys had observed Samir Fink earlier in the day Tuesday with what she believed or suspected was a handgun, according to a police affidavit that the judge read in court. When Borys, who sleeps in another part of the house, woke up the next morning she found her husband dead in his bed, according to the affidavit.
Fink lived in the home with his parents. Bullet casings were found next to the body and a handgun was found in Samir Fink’s room, Judge Mary Morrissey said.
Borys told police that the younger Fink had a stroke six years ago and that his behavior had changed since then.
“There are some indications on the face of the affidavit of some serious mental health issues,” said Fink’s public defender Avi Springer in court. “He was described as being dissociated, delusional.”
Fink will undergo a mental health evaluation. He was being held without bail.
