PHOENIX (AP) - A man who was acting erratically and handcuffed to prevent doing harm to himself has died, according to Phoenix police.

They said the cause of death for 42-year-old Darimiah Hand will be determined by the Maricopa County Medical Examiner.

Police said Hand was seen acting erratically at a school Tuesday afternoon, running into parked cars and refusing to leave the parking lot.

Hand walked off the property and wandered around a front yard of a home, walking into a wall and tree.

A police officer followed Hand and put him in handcuffs to prevent him from doing more harm to himself.

A second police officer arrived on the scene and the handcuffs were moved to the front of Hand’s body.

When Phoenix Fire Department paramedics arrived, they determined Hand had a lethal body temperature.

Police said Hand was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
