PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island man authorities say sexually molested an 11-year-old girl has been sentenced to serve 19 years in prison, prosecutors say.
Amos Robinson, 58, of Central Falls was sentenced Tuesday after pleading no contest to first-degree child molestation, Attorney General Peter Neronha said in a statement Wednesday.
Robinson was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with 19 years to serve and the balance suspended with probation. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender, complete sex offender counseling and was barred from having any contact with the victim.
Robinson, who knew the girl, assaulted her in 2017 and 2018, authorities said.
“Children should be able to grow up safely and free from the dangers posed by child predators like the defendant here,” Neronha said in a statement. “All of us can play a role in keeping children safe, including by recognizing that many acts of molestation occur at the hands of people known to the child victim.”
