SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Springfield police have identified and issued an arrest warrant for a suspect in a double shooting late last week that left a 19-year-old man dead and another man injured, authorities said Monday.
Police responded to a business parking lot at about 8:45 p.m. Friday for reports of gunfire and found the two victims, police spokesman Ryan Walsh.
Both were taken to the hospital, where the 19-year-old man died. He was identified by the Hampden district attorney’s office Monday as Justin Blanton, of Springfield.
The other shooting victim, identified as Andre Blanton, 27, of Springfield, is facing assault and firearms charges in connection with the shooting, police said. He is expected to survive.
The suspect was not publicly identified.
The shooting stemmed from an argument, Walsh said. The suspect Justin Blanton exchanged gunfire before the suspect backed over the victim then drove away. Andre Blanton picked up a gun and fired at the fleeing car, police said.
The death was the city’s 12th homicide of the year.
