ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - A Rochester man pleaded not guilty Monday to charges in the July death of a 3-year-old child, police said.
Police arrested Anthony Love, 32, on Sunday and charged him with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter. Love is on parole for a 2016 robbery conviction, the Rochester police said in a statement on Sunday.
Emergency services and the police department responded to a report early in the morning on July 11 that a child was not breathing at a Rochester home. Firefighters found Kei’mere Marshall on the floor, performed CPR and transferred him to a hospital.
He was moved again to Golisano Children’s Hospital in Rochester, where he was treated in the pediatric intensive care unit and put on life support. Police said physicians discovered multiple injuries while caring for him. He died on July 14 without ever regaining consciousness.
“This was a difficult and tedious investigation for all those involved and they worked tirelessly to learn the cause of the victim’s injuries,” the Rochester police said in a statement.
Police did not release information about the relationship, if any, between Love and Kei’mere. Love was held overnight in a Monroe county jail.
An attorney assigned to Love’s case from the Monroe County Public Defender’s Office, Joshua Stubbe, said in an email he would ask Love if he wished to comment when he speaks to him.
