MILLER, Mo. (AP) - Authorities in southwestern Missouri are investigating shootings that left one woman dead and another injured, officials said.

The shootings happened Sunday night in Lawrence County near Miller and appear to be connected, although they happened in different places, television station KYTV reported.

Authorities were alerted to the shootings when a woman called 911 Sunday night to report she had been shot and that a friend of hers had been killed at another location, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office said.

The injured woman was taken to a hospital, and deputies and troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol conducted a search and found another woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Authorities arrested three people suspected in the shootings.

Investigators believe the suspects stole one of the victim’s vehicles, which was found partially burned in Dade County.

Officials have not released the names of those shot or the people arrested.
