A Grafton police officer and the man he was attempting to arrest were hospitalized on Saturday in North Dakota after an exchange of gunfire.

Police officers were attempting to arrest Ruben Cruz on a federal warrant on Friday night, according to the Grafton Police Department, KFGO reported. Cruz fled and fired several rounds at the officers, striking Officer Lucas Campoverde in the chest. Another officer returned fire, hitting Cruz.

Both men were transported to the hospital. The police department said Campoverde was in stable condition, but did not have information on Cruz’s condition.
