OPINION:
I was sickened by the news of the death of 5-year-old Cannon Hinnant, who was executed in cold blood with a rifle shot directly against his head by a career felon who lived next door to him in Wilson, North Carolina (“5-year-old shot to death in North Carolina; suspect sought,” Web, Aug. 10). This was clearly another racist attack against a white child, unable to protect themselves. It makes the George Floyd tragedy pale by comparison. Where is the media coverage? Absent, of course, because this boy’s death does not further the “narrative” that systemic racism is a one-way street. This is disgusting and there should be a national outrage. Death sentences should be applied when appropriate and carried out on the courthouse steps immediately following the trial. If that were done, crimes like this would be nonexistent.
