LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A missing 14-year-old girl was taken into custody after she was found driving a Jeep that had been reported stolen, the Nebraska State Patrol said.
A trooper who noticed someone throw a cigarette out a window of the Jeep in downtown Lincoln Tuesday discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen, patrol spokesman Cody Thomas said.
The trooper eventually stopped the Jeep and found the 14-year-old driving, Thomas said.
She was taken into custody on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, no operator’s license and theft by receiving stolen property.
The girl was taken to the Lancaster County Youth Services Center, The Lincoln Journal-Star reported.
One of her passengers, 43-year-old Jay Schultz of Lincoln, was arrested on outstanding warrants. Another 18-year-old man in the car was released.
