JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - The roommate of a college student who was found dead in their apartment over the weekend was charged Monday with murder and two weapons counts.
The body of Yuting Ge, 23, was found shortly after 12:30 p.m. Saturday by Jersey City police, who had responded to reports of a “suspicious condition” at the apartment Ge shared with Tong Cheng, 26. Multiple lacerations were found throughout Ge’s body, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, but the cause and manner of death have not yet been determined.
Cheng received his graduate degree from Stevens Institute of Technology, and Ge was attending the same school, prosecutors said. It wasn’t clear how long they had been roommates.
Cheng was arrested without incident early Monday at a hotel in nearby Weehawken. It wasn’t known if he’s retained an attorney.
Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive for the attack.
