DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - A 2-year-old boy who authorities believe was taken from his mother’s home after she was stabbed has been found in Maryland, a North Carolina police department said Thursday.

Emerson Ezequille Rivas-Melendez, 22, of Durham, and his son, Jeremy Rivas-Munoz were located in Prince George’s County in Maryland, the Durham Police Department said. Spokeswoman Kammie Michael said in a statement that the boy is OK and that Rivas-Melendez is in custody.

The victim, a 24-year-old, was take to Duke Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries resulting from the stabbing, Michael said.



Michael said warrants have been issued charging Rivas-Melendez with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, attempted first-degree murder and first-degree burglary.
