JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - A man has been found shot to death in Jersey City, authorities said, the fourth fatal shooting there in the past seven days.
City police responding to reports of shots fired around 6:30 p.m. Monday found Javone Smith, 23, in the area of Martin Luther King Drive and Myrtle Avenue, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office. He had been shot multiple times in the upper body and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
A motive for the shooting remains under investigation. It’s not clear if the shooter targeted Moore, who lived in Jersey City, or if he was shot in a random attack.
It’s not known if Monday’s shooting was connected to any of the other three recent shootings. All four shootings have occurred along a 1.3-mile stretch, authorities have said.
