OPINION:
The left-wing media is again showing itself to be either inept, lacking in common sense or trying to pressure the president to take action for which it would later criticize him even more. The media persists in questioning President Trump’s decision not to issue an executive order for a nationwide lockdown. The president has correctly stated that he does not have the constitutional authority to do so.
If he did issue such an order, Mr. Trump would surely be attacked for usurping the authority of the governors and exceeding his own power. Such ammunition would be used by progressive Democrats to again attempt to impeach him.
The president has also noted that each state is different. A one-size-fits-all executive order could be harmful. The governors are in the best position to determine what action is warranted for their states. Mr. Trump has been in constant contact with them to discuss strategies, the states’ needs and the assistance the national government can provide. For the educationally challenged media, the process is called federalism.
There are other common-sense reasons for Mr. Trump not to so act. Most governors have already imposed a state lockdown. Hence, such an executive order would be redundant as well as unnecessary. Furthermore, any attempt to enforce such an order would be a waste of precious federal resources needed elsewhere. Regardless of which reason is correct, the media’s conduct on this score continues to be reprehensible.
Crisis brings out the best and worst in people. If this is the best the mainstream press has to offer, the bar is clearly very low.
