OPINION:
In all the concern over the COVID-19 pandemic, there is one group that is being overlooked — namely, the invisible, isolated, poor elderly.
Aged and impoverished, these people may just be getting by. Certainly they cannot afford food delivery. Isolated, they have no family, friends or neighbors they can count on for assistance. They may also have no car, so if they need to go out for medical care, they are dependent on public transportation, which might shut down at any time.
The only way they can get food is to walk to the supermarket for a few things at a time. They may not have (and cannot get) face masks.
They are invisible, because no one knows about them, and they are not known to social service agencies. Thus, their prospects are not good.
