Elon Musk has a message for politicians and Silicon Valley: “Free America now.”

The entrepreneur heading up Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) — who also serves as Tesla Inc.’s Chief Executive Officer — said it’s time to unwind the coronavirus shutdown.

Mr. Musk has cheered Texas for its plans to start freeing up businesses on Friday while referring to Silicon Valley as “Sanctimonious Valley.”

The billionaire published a trio of tweets late Tuesday — “FREE AMERICA NOW,” “Give people their freedom back!” and “Bravo Texas!” — while sharing articles on the pandemic.

His commentary comes against a political backdrop in which hopes of reopening Tesla plants in California have been thwarted by shutdown orders.

Factories in the Bay Area have been shuttered since March due to a stay-at-home order and may not reopen throughout most of May.

“Silicon Valley has become Sanctimonious Valley,” he tweeted Monday. “Too much the moral arbiter of the world.”

The latest Johns Hopkins University coronavirus data for the U.S. details roughly 1 million cases nationwide in a population of 330 million people.

Nearly 59,000 people have died from the contagion.
