ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (AP) - A Kentucky middle school teacher who was arrested on child pornography charges has been fired from his job.
Robert “Robbie” Alan Thompson Jr. was terminated from Hardin County Schools on Tuesday following the arrest on two counts of possession of child pornography, news outlets reported.
Thompson, 33, is accused of receiving two photos of minors engaging in sexual activities from Matthew Alexander Lyons, according to the arrest warrant.
Lyons, also 33, faces more than 100 charges related to child sexual exploitation, according to news outlets. Investigators said he was in possession of more than 1,500 sexually explicit photos or videos involving minors. The content was in a passcode-protected app on his phone, the arrest warrant stated.
Thompson had been an eighth grade math teacher at West Hardin Middle School for one year, according to a statement from Superintendent Teresa Morgan. He previously taught eighth grade math at Bondurant Middle School and was named “Franklin County Schools Middle School Teacher of the Year” for the 2017-18 school year, The State Journal reported.
It’s unclear whether Thompson or Lyons had attorneys who could speak for them.
