I believe that President Trump has been getting and following bad advice from the doctors on his coronavirus team. The “shelter in place” idea did not work to slow the disease in China, Italy or Spain. It is silly to think that it is working in the United States.

But following bad advice is a mistake. President Trump does not have bad motives. The Democrats, led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, do have bad motives: To spend money to help their friends, their lobbyists and the mismanaged states run by Democrats, such as California, Illinois and New York. Mrs. Pelosi and her allies want to give these states huge sums of money to bail them out of decades of bad fiscal policy instead of limiting the money to just helping to fight COVID-19.

Instead of helping America’s working people (small-business owners included), Mrs. Pelosi and her pals want to pick people’s pockets now and saddle them with higher taxes later.
