PELZER, S.C. (AP) - A house fire and subsequent explosion left a South Carolina woman dead and a firefighter injured, authorities said.

The fire started Wednesday night at the home Crystal Lynn Pearson shared with her parents, news outlets reported.

Anderson County Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman said Pearson was found dead on a couch in the front room of the home.

Boseman said he believed Pearson was attempting to escape but died of smoke inhalation.

Pearson’s parents weren’t home. A family dog also died of smoke inhalation, Boseman said.

Boseman said an explosion after the fire may have been caused by three portable oxygen tanks inside the home that previously belonged to Pearson’s grandmother.

A firefighter was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Boseman said.
