HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Some 40,000 utility customers in Connecticut were without power Monday as a storm brought high winds and heavy rain to the region.
Repair crews are working on restoring power but might be delayed by wind that can create unsafe working conditions, said Mitch Gross, a spokesman for Eversource, which provides power to 149 cities and towns across the state.
“We are (also) operating under our COVID-19 pandemic plan which means social distancing, face coverings,” he said.
The United Illuminating Company, which provides power to the greater New Haven and Bridgeport areas, reported over 800 customers were without power Monday afternoon.
The National Weather Service forecast winds gusting up to over 60 miles per hour in Connecticut on Monday.
