BURBANK, Calif. (AP) - An explosion at a Los Angeles-area electrical substation sent a fireball into the air and caused brief power outages Friday but no injuries were reported, authorities said.

The blast before noon caused a transformer fire at the Burbank Water and Power substation on Lincoln Street that sent up a thick black cloud of smoke and took about 30 minutes to douse, police and fire officials said.

The fire was contained to the transformer building and no nearby homes were damaged, authorities said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
