The two greatest quarterbacks and the two best golfers of their respective eras teaming up for a charity golf match? It might sound like a pipe dream, but it could be close to happening.

CNBC reported that the PGA Tour and WarnerMedia are finalizing a two-on-two golf match pitting Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning against Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady in a special event for coronavirus relief efforts.

But the PGA Tour responded Wednesday by saying it hasn’t signed off on anything yet.

“Discussions along these lines have been ongoing for quite some time, but nothing has been approved by the Tour,” it said in a statement Wednesday.

The match could happen as soon as May, CNBC said, and is “unlikely to be featured on pay-per-view” but instead over live TV accessible to all.

In 2018 Mickelson defeated Woods in a pay-per-view match for a purse of $9 million.

With all major sports leagues and events on hold due to the pandemic, it would be sure to draw a large TV audience. Though the PGA Tour itself is suspended, golf is theoretically one of the few sports that can be played while adhering to proper social distancing guidelines, as well.
