RENO, Nev. (AP) - A school district in northwest Nevada has decided to end its superintendent search and vote on whether or not to appoint its interim superintendent to the permanent position.
The Washoe County School District Board expects to vote on appointing Kristen McNeill at its April 28 meeting, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported Tuesday.
“Our best way moving forward is to suspend the search,” said Trustee Andrew Caudill, who said McNeill has impressed him during her temporary time in the position.
McNeill was named interim superintendent on July 1 after the school board voted to remove former superintendent Traci Davis from her position.
“We need to put this on pause and think about what is best for everyone,” Trustee Jacqueline Calvert said, in support of moving forward with the national search.
The decision to suspend the search has already changed the national candidate pool, Board President Malena Raymond said, adding that she had hesitations on the making the decision.
Board members also talked about negotiating McNeill’s contract to a shorter term in light of suspending the search. The maximum the district was willing to pay for the national search consultant was $30,000, members said.
