CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A group of New Hampshire Department of Corrections staff members is planning a 5K road race in memory of a corrections officer who was riding his bicycle when he was killed in a crash in September 2018.

The race in honor of Sgt. Patrick Bettens is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26, on the NHTI campus in Concord. All proceeds will go toward a college fund for Bettens’ two children.

The 41-year-old Bettens, of Concord, was pedaling in the city when a car struck his rear tire, causing him to fall and be struck by the vehicle. He later died at a hospital.

The driver pleaded not guilty to four charges.
