NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) - Fire officials say a man injured in a blaze in Rhode Island over the holiday weekend has died.

Newport Fire Chief Brian Dugan confirmed to The Newport Daily News on Tuesday that the man injured in the fire Sunday afternoon “did pass.”

The victim’s name was not made public.



Firefighters responded to the fire at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Deputy Chief Tim Redmond said at the time that “they encountered heavy fire in the back of the building. The fire was under control in 30 minutes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
