ASBURY PARK, N.J. (AP) - Two Asbury Park police officers are facing criminal charges in the alleged vandalism of cars belonging to someone who had filed a complaint against them.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office says Officer Stephen Martinsen and Special Officer Thomas Dowling face conspiracy, weapons and criminal mischief charges.

The officers are accused of vandalizing two vehicles belonging to the victim early Tuesday in Ocean Grove and Asbury Park. Prosecutors wouldn’t reveal the nature of the complaint the alleged victim filed against the officers.

Martinsen has been suspended without pay, and Dowling has been dismissed from the force. Prosecutors said the officers haven’t yet notified them that they have hired defense attorneys. Martinsen’s telephone voice mail said he wasn’t accepting calls Wednesday; no listing could immediately be found for Dowling.
