HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - The parents of a 15-year-old Connecticut boy who accidentally shot and killed himself at a friend’s house have settled their lawsuit against the gun owner for $1 million.

The Hartford Courant reported Monday that Kristen and Michael Song filed the federal suit on behalf of their son Ethan Song’s estate.

The parents said in their lawsuit the gun owner, the father of their son’s friend, was negligent for allegedly unsafely storing the gun in his Guilford home.

Terms of the settlement were submitted as part of the final accounting of the teen’s probate estate.

Ethan Song shot himself in January 2018 with a firearm stored in the bedroom closet.

The gun owner wasn’t charged. His son was charged with manslaughter.

The teen’s death led to stronger gun storage laws in Connecticut.
