FRANKFORT, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan high school football player who was sitting out his team’s game because of a groin injury raced to the aid of an 11-year-old spectator when he noticed her having a seizure.
Seth Migda, 17, was video recording the game Friday night between Charlevoix High School and Frankfort High School when Grace Gibson fell and hit her head. She has since returned home from the hospital and is doing well.
Grace was convulsing when he reached her, the Charlevoix senior said. He then scooped her up and ran her to an athletic trainer while another senior dialed 911.
“They were talking so fast,” Migda told the Traverse City-Record Eagle. “I knew the way it was said in the child’s voice, it was real.”
Grace has since returned home from the hospital and is doing well, the newspaper reported.
Becky Miller, a Frankfort teacher and the school’s volleyball coach, said she was in another area on the field when she was notified that the girl collapsed.
“By the time I got over there, the paramedics were already there,” Miller said. “The (Charlevoix) kids stayed there the whole time.”
An ambulance took Grace to the hospital.
Migda said he’s sore from the experience but still hopes to play this week in the Rayders’ homecoming game.
“It was worth it,” he said. “I don’t wish I was injured, but I’m glad I was able to be there. The Lord does crazy things for crazy reasons.”
