NORTHFIELD, Vt. (AP) - The country’s oldest private military college is celebrating its 200th anniversary with a day of activities.

The event takes place on Saturday at the site of Norwich University’s founding on the town green in Northfield.

The public is invited to attend.

The school says Norwich and Dartmouth College officials will take part in the ceremonies under a tent. The school’s Regimental Band - the country’s oldest collegiate band - will perform and the drill team will do a demonstration.

The town historical society will also have an exhibition called “Citizens & Soldiers” that was created by Norwich’s Sullivan Museum & History Center. A ceremonial wreath-laying will take place on the grave of Norwich Founder Captain Alden Partridge and a professor emeritus will provide a walking tour of village landmarks.
