STOWE, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s top forestry official is urging hikers to stay away from the Cotton Brook area, which is still unstable after a June landslide.

Commissioner Michael Snyder of the Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation says the area of Stowe along the Cotton Brook remains active, and changing likely will continue to be that way for some time.

WCAX-TV reports the June landslide closed all of Fosters Trail along with the Cotton Brook Road and says there’s no way to fix it other than to let it naturally re-vegetate and settle.

Snyder says officials are hopeful that over time it will be possible to relocate and reconnect some of the trails.
