CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (AP) - A former Rhode Island police dispatcher has filed a federal suit against a police officer she says sexually assaulted her and a half dozen others she says sexually harassed her.

The plaintiff alleges she was assaulted in 2011 and harassed by other Central Falls police officers through 2017.

The plaintiff says the officer accused of assaulting her apologized through the city’s internal email system.

City spokesman Chris Hunter tells WPRI-TV that Mayor James Diossa requested an independent investigation by an attorney when the city was notified of the claims in April 2018.

Diossa is also named in the suit.

Hunter says the city will seek dismissal of the lawsuit.

The plaintiff’s attorney declined to comment.

The officers named in the suit have not responded to emails.
