DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A man whose threats to kill himself caused the evacuation of a Florida hotel was taken into police custody after officers electrically shocked him while delivering a soda.

The Daytona Beach Police Department tweeted that the unidentified man was taken into custody after a standoff Saturday.

The Ocean Breeze Beach Club hotel was evacuated as a precautionary measure during the standoff.

Orlando television station WFTV says officers shocked the man with a Taser after he opened his door to get a soda he had requested.

Deputy Chief Jakari Young tells the Daytona Beach News-Journal that witnesses saw the man holding something green. WFTV reports it was a dummy grenade.

Young says the man is from Atlantic City, New Jersey and has been staying at the hotel for two days.
