LAUREL, Md. (AP) - Rescue teams in Maryland used ropes and ladders to free two men from a plane that hung suspended from trees 50 feet (15 meters) in the air after crashing into a wooded area.

News outlets report the plane downed near the Tipton Airport in Laurel on Tuesday. State police identified the pilot as 55-year-old Thomas Falk and the passenger as 59-year-old James Palazak. Both men were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Photos from the scene show the small, damaged plane lodged into trees and caught in the branches.

A State Police news release said investigators think the plane may’ve suffered engine failure.

It’s the second plane crash in Maryland in a week. On Sept. 12 four people were injured when an aircraft crashed into a Bowie highway.
