WINFIELD, Kan. (AP) - A 7-year-old boy has died after his pony flipped over on him while he was riding in southern Kansas.
Max Henderson was injured Sunday while practicing roping in the Winfield area. A statement from his parents, Shane and Missi Henderson, said they rushed him to a local hospital, where he was stabilized before being transported to a larger hospital in Wichita. The statement says he survived surgery but died a short time later. It was determined that a large vein had been severed.
His school, Country View Elementary, said in a statement that counselors would be on hand to help mourning students, parents and staff. The statement asked students to wear a western outfit Monday in Max’s memory.
