MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - A reopened road in West Virginia is causing some concern among local officials who are worried about safety.
River Road was closed last year when a major land slide sent trees, power poles and dirt across the asphalt.
The Dominion Post reports West Virginia Department of Highways spokesman Brent Walker says officials made the decision to reopen the road on Sept. 6 after no movement was seen for several months.
Monongalia County Commission President Tom Bloom said the move was surprising and concerning. The newspaper reports local officials were told it would take about $6 million to stabilize the hillside near the road.
Walker said the agency would continue to monitor the road as it works toward a permanent fix.
