PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a woman suffered “very serious” injuries Thursday when struck by a hit-and-run vehicle.

Police Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said officers found a wheelchair at the scene but couldn’t immediately determine whether the woman was sitting in the wheelchair or pushing it when struck Thursday.

The vehicle was described as a blue car that drove away northbound after the crash occurred.

The crash occurred at about 4:45 a.m. in the middle of a block of North 43rd Avenue near West Indian School Road.
